This is a video of Imran Johri’s segment. (Video footage courtesy of Kelvin of www.saltwetfish.net). Big file, ok? Be patient hor.

Hmm… Its funny but what does it gonna do with KL when you are in Singapore?
Is this his event about his personal life? If it is, why not change to “Imran Johri in Parliament” than “TalkingCock in Parliament”?

JOP, pronounced as JOE with a P at the end is Pause. You can sign it with all the finger tips touching each other.
JOM, pronounced as JOE with an M a the end is reserved, the same as CHOP in Singapore. Usually signed with an open palm on a seat :)
it’s not as funny when you get your facts wrong…

I was proud to be a Singaporean and found the ’show’ HIGHLY entertaining and touched my heart.
However, I just read this and I AM ANGWEE!!!!! As a Singaporean, I am so ashamed. http://forums.hardwarezone.com/showthread.php?t=1377505
PLUS, I’ve discovered I cannot use Nicoll Highway from 10 to 20 Sep! Now I feel what it means to be a Singaporean - PUT UP A SHOW (unfortunately not Mr Brown Show). I feel that Singaporeans now also mean ‘LOW PRIORITY’.

ruey, i think you are nitpicking- that was the whole point- that he was unfamiliar to how malaysians do things. Obviously the material for the show which is part of the spirit of National day in singapore would be something more aimed and identifiable to Singaporeans. Please give the man a break!

Hiya folks, I’m the ignoramus in the vid :)
I checked on ruey’s corrections with my Malaysian colleagues and here’s what I found (wahlaueh, one kind of argument with my staff sia… )
It seems that our version of ‘chope’ is spelled ‘chup’ in Malaysia and here’s what one of my writers said: “Last time play catching if you dowan to kena tangkap say CHUP! then the fella must stop…”
So the pausing bit is pretty correct la…
As for the “JOM, pronounced as JOE with an M a the end is reserved, the same as CHOP in Singapore. Usually signed with an open palm on a seat” That one caused some confused faces in my office… according to them, ‘jom’ means ‘let’s go’…
Heh, but it was riot trying to ascertain it all… big shout out to the folks who came that night… it was great seeing everyone!

kekekek :) ya….
anyway, just to clarify the last bit, yes JOM does mean let’s go, but to the hokkiens, it also means to reserve a seat.
still funny though :) you’re a natural….

totoro… fully agree with what u said… and it’s saddening after reading the ex-con article. Not just that, this thing just keep crossing my mind… while the IMF officials are having massage, manicure and sharkfins, those non-governmental organisations (NGO) found their mouth plastered and denied entry to any part of the neighbouring island… -.-”
