An alternative view to this fare hike, is that taxi touting inspired taxi companies to see, how profitable it was to raise complex surcharges, since people in Singapore were prepared to pay for pirates.
Better to keep hiding money-squeezing inside multiple surcharges (so they might think), than to come right out with a simple albeit higher flag-down rate, and consistent meter jump.
That’s how cheaper (than the world-class cities) Singapore conceals its actually higher cost of living.
