Mr Brown’s “White Christmas”
I’m dreaming of a big bonus (Merry christmas from the Mr Brown Show!)
Just like civil servants got, you know!
Ask my big boss to listen
He said, “No budget this season.
Our costs all go up long ago!”
I’m dreaming of a big bonus
Economy grow, said men in white (said men in white)
As our GDP Growth growth numbers take flight
It’s the perfect time for a tax hike.
I’m dreaming of a big bonus (oooooh-ahhh-oooooh)
My boss won’t give me 2.2 (no two-point-two!)
He said he not gahment
Not even increment
And if talk some more get big cut too! (get big cut too!)
I’m dreaming I don’t get retrenchment
No job, no money go “jiak sai” (let’s go “jiak sai”)
Better next time don’t ask boss why
Or else christmas time eat grass and die! (eat grass and die)
November 29th, 2006 at 10:20 am
Apologies, it reads “get pay cut too”, not ‘big cut”.
Hurhur.. I was too busy laughing to really listen problem.

You song well, guys! That’s a great arrangement you sang to! Just needs a few tempo fixes, but I loved the harmonising! Such a beauticul song to describe such a dismal point in our Singaporean lives! Do one to Mery Christmas: We wish you a boig ole’ bonus, we wish you a big ole’ bonus we wish you a big ole’ bonus Civil servants got too!

Totally hilarious!! Ha.. I’m a civil servant (in the army).. But seriously, the bonus doesn’t really balances up to the all the hard work and hardship we had being put through. But CHEERS! MR. Brown!!

“My boss won’t give me 2.2.” (stanza 3 verse 2)
“…go jiak sai …eat grass & die” (stanza 4 verses 2 & 4)
You know,
for your typical small-time self-employed
(e.g. hawkers, taxi drivers, freelance creatives…),
we cannot even think of year end bonus,
much less 2(.2 months’ worth).
Working so close to the bottom line,
the typical experience down here is more like,
grazing on plants emerging from manure…
and then keeping on living!
(…OK, hee hee, just half serious! :-) )
Happy festive season!
Count your blessings & treasure them!
