STAN & RYAN ARE SINGAPOREAN Stan (Cantonese): We were born in Hong Kong but I migrated to Singapore 16 years ago with my family. Ryan (Cantonese): I came here 12 years ago. Stan (Cantonese): Back then, apart from Cantonese I couldn't speak any other language. (English) Now I can speak English. Ryan (Mandarin): I can speak Mandarin. Stan (Cantonese): We knew each other from NS days. We hated NS. Ryan (Cantonese): I felt that it was a waste of time. Stan (Cantonese): But now and then we'd talk about our NS days. Ryan (Cantonese): And when you talk about it, actually it's quite fun. Stan (Cantonese): I hate Singapore weather, because I'm afraid of the heat. Ryan (Cantonese): But the good thing about that is that you save money not having to buy winter clothes. Stan (Cantonese): That's true, and when you're talking about Hong Kong, because Hong Kong's not a country, we didn't understand the notion of nationality. So, from young, I never had any sense of patriotism, don't you think so? Ryan (Cantonese): Yeah, no, but when I'm in Singapore, I start to feel just a little bit of that. And I'm not so self-centred. Stan (Cantonese): Yah, remember when we were in NS and we marched with M-16s in the NDP? Ryan (Cantonese): Yeah, stand until leg tired. Stan (Cantonese): I like the chicken rice here. The chicken's tender and the rice fragrant. And the chilli sauce's hot enough. Ryan (Cantonese): I like the Chao Guotiao. But the see hum's not cooked enough. Stan (Cantonese): It's not nice if it's overcooked. My surname's Lam, I'm called Stanley, and my nickname's Artgerm. I'm an artist. Ryan (Cantonese): My surname's Kwok, I'm called Ryan, and my Chinese name's Kwok Chun Foong. I'm a photographer. Stan & Ryan (Cantonese): We are Singaporean. Stan (Cantonese): So say we all. Ryan (Cantonese): So say we all.
