by mrbrown
The trains they come and go
Filled with faces I don’t know
Sometimes they don’t stop for me
I live near Woodleigh MRT
The city’s changing every day
I saw a new gantry on the way
That is why I sold my car
Why the bus-stop so damn far
You took so much from me
Got no cash to take taxi
But I’m still in love with you
But I’m still in love with you
(And) when I grow old, and don’t do what I’m told
I will still be in love with you
I can’t afford a holiday
Everything has gone up but my pay
Can’t go out with all my friends
Can’t afford the latest fashion pants
You promised me paradise
Overflowing with abundant rice
I used to go for lunch buffets
Now my breakfast’s half a yeow char kuey
You took so much from me
Got no cash to go high-tea
But I’m still in love with you
But I’m still in love with you
And when I grow old, and don’t do what I’m told
I will still be in love with you
You took so much from me
Got no cash to go high-tea
But I’m still in love with you
But I’m still in love with you
And when I grow old, promise me you won’t turn cold
Cos I’d still be in love with you
Took so much from me
Got no cash, but I’m happy
I am still in love with you
I am still in love with you
And when I grow old, and don’t do what I’m told
I will still be in love with you…
August 8th, 2008 at 4:40 pm

Thank you Brown and crew!
Feeling homesick now……… :(
Who wrote the music and the lyrics?
August 9th, 2008 at 11:56 am
Nice song. Although the “still………….in love with you” is quite long .
The first 2 parts is very awesome. though.
August 9th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
I love this song much more than the offical NDP song can! Thank you and Keep it going Mr Brown and co, you have my support forever ;D
August 9th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
totally deserves a mention by the PM at the NDP!!
August 9th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
Well, Great song.
No money to take cab..
Should we sing insufficent $$ to take bus?
Bus fars keep rising every year, not enough money liao.
Hahhaa..
August 9th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
Cool song. Better than the official hotel song anyway. :)
National day is covered less than Olympic on some channel.
So Our Nation Independence day has less significance than a one shot event in a rising third world country and yesterday the news report on “Patriot” PRC who eat durians to watch the O lim Pig.
August 9th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
a true s’porean’s perspective…this should be the national day song or anthem..haha…but somehow would still love this country. Rock on Mr Brown and gang!
August 9th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
Spot on of my sentiment - Happy National Day.
August 9th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
I’m not singaporean and even I like it.
August 9th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
Onlooker taken again.
oh well, Hmmm cool song agreed.
National day not covered as extensive as olympic agreed, but what cause this “complacent” behavior?
And yes it is our independence (from british) day.Not a birthday unless the land mass is form when Singapore is declared independent.
August 9th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
WOW! Hilarious! Great lyrics, great singing, great music! Super nice! Go Mr. Brown! :) Happy National Day!
August 9th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
“Now my breakfast’s half a yeow char kuey”
Muahaha best!
August 9th, 2008 at 7:39 pm

August 9th, 2008 at 11:45 pm
Really nice vocal and song. Thanks Mr Brown.
August 10th, 2008 at 12:27 am
You guys are amazing!
A national day song that
1 - tugs at the heartstrings
2 - humable (nothing to do with mee-siam)
3 - enjoyable
You guys are a bunch of extreme local talent who happen to be caught/stuck/persisting on the wrong/other/not-eye-to-eye/no-toe-the-line side of things.
If only they understand that life is not about being white, but that even white has various shades of whiteness.
August 10th, 2008 at 12:41 am
I think you are totally out of line in this song for Singapore. It is not the country, it is the ruling party. Unless you equate Singapore = PAP. Which I don’t think so.
It is you and me, common folks who can make the difference. The problem here is that people place all their trust in the garment and then complain after that.
Try to make that difference.
August 10th, 2008 at 1:31 am
Thank you Mr Brown.
Indeed I feel that the real difference is MM; people continue to place trust in MM and that is why loving Singapore is easy. MM is Singapore , say what ever you like.
The first love may last forever, whether it is for good or bad is for history to judge.
I hope the Cabinet will have a chance to listen to you National Day song
Peaceful holiday guys.
August 10th, 2008 at 11:32 am
I’m also a singapore student currently overseas, feels good to hear something really singaporean on national day! well done!
happy bday singapore!
August 10th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
LOL this song is better than the NDP theme song.May I suggest that they sing this song for NDP 2009? =.=
August 10th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
BRAVO BRAVO~
August 10th, 2008 at 5:31 pm

Everyday changes bring about new mindsets yet amidst all these, Singapore holds a special place in my heart. Even with cold hearts and rude manners to match cavemen, I am still in love with Singapore.
Living in Sydney has given me a new resolve for hoping for better things for my island home. I am still in love with Singapore.
August 11th, 2008 at 10:45 am
Bravo to the team! You have definitely scored again with this honest-to-goodness song. I must say it is better than the slick, commercial NDP themesong this year despite its raw edges. Well done (you have certainly brought back memories of those JC days spent twanging in the students lounge playing guitar and talking rot :-))!
August 11th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
Yo Jun Kit, thanks for the chords! Wah, so paisay, you put my name in your chord chart also. Heehee.
Btw, mrbrown, I hope I’ve done an accurate enough transcription of the lyrics. I think/know there’s no apostrophe s in the line “My breakfast half a yeow char kuey”. Am I right? *:b
To mrbrown and company, hope you have a great time chillin’ out on this “replacement holiday”! *:)
August 11th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Great Song! Mr Brown For President!!!!
August 11th, 2008 at 4:53 pm
Very awesome song!! What rough around the edges… this is pro stuff!! Great work guys!
August 11th, 2008 at 5:42 pm
Thanks so much for the song!
August 12th, 2008 at 1:15 am
This song is fantastic.
I love the vocals, the music and the lyrics.
Simply a work of class, just for Singaporeans. :)
August 12th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
Thank you for that beautiful composition. Well done, with love from NZ!
August 12th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
AWESOME SONG! Well done! Great lyrics too!
But I still am in love with your ERP song, and won’t forget the BLAME IT ON SOMEBODY song!
Anyway, this song represents exactly how I feel these few years!!!
And yo! one of your fans said that MM is Singapore…. ahem! If that is so, then it is not doing justice to S.Rajaratnam, Goh Keng Swee, and many more, even B. Sheares and Yusok Ishak!!!
SINGAPORE IS NOT MM. If it is, then all these folks should not be mentioned at all in History books! Anyway, these folks, including Tony Tan, are people I will salute too as they worked hard to alleviate Singapore’s global status in the 1960s to 1980s!!! They deserve our appreciation too.
After all, a country is not built by one man alone! A general needs soldiers, but sad to say, Singapore is now having a CEO with employees instead.
Mr Brown! U are not alone! Already my family from bak chor mee has downgraded to chee cheong fun and then now to yew char kuah!!!!
I know what it feels like to love my country and constantly wonder if my country loves me just as much!!!
August 13th, 2008 at 11:30 am
oh mine.. oh mine.. i’m so in love wif u.. ;p
August 14th, 2008 at 12:20 pm
Yeh, supported - Mr Brown is worthy for President.
Mr Brown is in the league of Obama; if Mr Brown were American, he would win the Presidency there.
I am for the ground movement to ground swell Mr Brown to convince him that people want him, and that he will win the Presidential vote in Singapore if he so decide to step up to serve the people.
Keep up the momentum guys.
August 15th, 2008 at 8:40 am
just the perfect avenue to cure my homesickness.
yes, and I love SG so.
Thank You MrBrown.
