I’m so disappointed in SM Goh to have to resort to lame persuasive tactics like these. What net happiness? Utilitarianism doesn’t work all the time but he’s just trying to cover the fact that so many people are unhappy with HDB pricing policies.

What a lame thing! Net Happiness! SM = Senile Minister??? Oppss
September 24th, 2010 at 5:54 pm
SM thinks Singaporeans are stupid or what? I have an F for my maths also I know how “net” works. e.g. Gross (total) less deduction (unhappiness) = net happiness. So if you don’t have total happiness how to have net happiness? Common sense will tell you that lor. So it is a fact to say some net happiness is more and some less lor. He should know better now that the net happiness of alot of Singaporeans may be practically NIL.

Full Lyrics (not the ones in the mp3)
SM Spoken:
Now those who miss out,
Those who can’t buy this,
Who can’t upgrade,
And so on,
So we are really feeling the happiness
Question is:
Was the policy good?
Unhappiness,
Plus those who are happier,
In total there’s net happiness.
There’s no such thing called total happiness
I mean don’t don’t believe in it.
It’s whether we create a net happiness in all this.
Sung:
Now those who miss out
Those who can’t buy this
(who can’t buy this, who can’t upgrade)
Who can’t upgrade
And so on
(And so on)
So we are really feeling
The unhappiness
(feeling the happiness)
So we are really feeling
The unhappiness
(feeling the happiness)
Now those who miss out
Those who can’t buy this
(can-can’t buy this)
Who can’t upgrade
And so on
(And s-s-so on)
So we are really feeling
The unhappiness

according to mathematical logic, if…
unhappiness + those who are happier = net happiness
where net happiness > 0, unhappiness 0
BUT when unhappiness > those who are happier,
=> unhappiness + those who are happier = net happiness
September 26th, 2010 at 10:45 pm
NET happiness is in the NEGATIVE !!!
-ve
Unhappiness + those who are happier = - (Net happiness)
September 27th, 2010 at 8:48 am
So if the rich are very happy but the poor are less happy we have net happiness?
Stuipid.

Happiness can be argued as a subjective state or sense of being.
It can be deemed as a desired emotional state or a highly developed cognitive process in dealing with dire situations and emerging as the overcomer.
I am sadden that HDB flats have become a touchstone for measuring happiness. I maintain that HDB flats is a part of the Singaporean journey and to many like myself it is our way of life.
But to mention that HDB flats is a measurement for happiness is an insult to the Singaporean.

Omg somehow GCT’s words translate into the song perfectly! Maybe he should have been a lyricist!

Foreign Talents = positive happiness
Locals = negative happiness
If there is positive net happiness, we know who are happier.
